Why I am running for the Passau City Council again

Dear residents of Passau,

Many of you may be wondering:

Why is Sebastian Frankenberger running for the city council again after a ten-year political hiatus?

A valid question.

Ten years of distance – out of conviction

I have already been a member of the Passau City Council. And quite frankly: in recent years, my involvement would have achieved little. The political culture in the city hall was characterized by stagnation. Decisions were prepared in small circles, and genuine debates were rarely desired. The motto seemed to be: Where wood is planed, shavings must fall – so we’d rather not plane at all.

But when nothing happens, a city stands still. And that hurts. Especially when you love this city. Passau is my home. I have always wanted to get involved. But political shaping requires openness, dialogue, and a genuine will for change. And that is exactly what was missing for a long time.

Why it is different now

Now there is a new constellation. A new parliamentary group. A new dynamic. I am running on the FDP list – together with figures such as Holm Putzke and Georg Steiner. Yes, I was the federal chairman of the ÖDP. And yes, I personally have little in common with the federal politics of the FDP. But that is not what this is about. Local politics is not federal politics. In Passau, it is not about party colors. It is about people. About character. About attitude. And about concrete ideas for our city.

Why I support Holm Putzke

Holm Putzke is someone who takes action. He is innovative, open to dialogue, honest, and constructive. He seeks exchange across party lines – not for tactical reasons, but because he truly cares about the cause. About Passau. About progress instead of stagnation. He stands for a new political style: open, transparent, and solution-oriented. And that is exactly why I support him.

Do not vote blindly – vote consciously

And yet, I tell you quite clearly: do not make it too easy for yourselves. Take a close look at the lists.

The CSU, SPD, FDP, ÖDP, the Greens, the Left, the Free Voters, and the Passau List all have dedicated, excellent candidates.

Local elections are elections of personality. Vote for people you trust. People who stand for something. People who bring a breath of fresh air to the dusty city hall.
